since 2009, the city of ghent has gifted newborn ghent residents a birth forest. in this birth forest stand monuments bearing the names of the children. the design of the monument is inspired by a tipi in which ‘the newborn’ looks towards the future. the shape of the tipi is therefore divergent. this divergence is continued in the walls, the ceiling, and the installed information panel. this gives the visitor the opportunity to approach this place with the entry as the destination. the structure stands isolated in its surroundings, it is without protocol.
