for the famous 3 michelin star restaurant hertog jan near the city of bruges (belgium), stefan schöning was asked to design chairs, clothing for the staff, cheese carts and fine accessories. the design took shape from the philosophy of the architecture, the fine-grained clients wish list and the subtle, refined attention to the material, which comes into obvious harmony with the architectural design of the site. the chair is conceived of a metal base structure in rough steel covered with a soft epoxy powder coating varnish. the characteristics of this special paint gives the metal frame though a warm and pleasant touch. the seat and back are conceived of a flexible polypropylene sheet with a layer of polyethylene foam and covered with thick saddle leather. this special construction gives a thin but hence comfortable result thanks to the flexibility of the whole. we produced this chair in a small series of 100 pieces. today we are looking for a manufacturer to translate this small but exciting adventure into a bigger success.
