the agricultural park ‘tuinen van stene’ becomes one of the most important new public spaces in the city of oostende. this watchtower will become an important icon in this new landscape. the design of this tower combines 3 things: a new beacon in the new landscape, a meeting place for cyclists and walkers and an experience of the environment at different levels.

the design is a synergy between architecture and product design. it was conceived as an industrial product that can be fully prepared and produced in the workshop. the construction is an open framework that refers to the industrial revolution of the 19th century. inside the frame a revolving staircase is covered with glass and refers to historic greenhouses with whitewashed windows. in the center of the tower stands is a tree.
