chinese porcelain was highly coveted in europe during the 17th century; therefore the magical substance was called ‘white gold’. it was so rare and expensive that it was valued more highly than gold. exorbitant amounts of time, energy and money was spent to unlock the secret of making porcelain, but up until now the finest quality is still ‘made in china’. i wanted to use this pejorative label in a positive way. most people associate it with low cost and matching quality. but it’s the exhaustive know-how in old workshops where knowledge passes from generation to generation that convinced us to take the production to china. for this assignment our studio has designed and developed the collection, but furthermore has been responsible for the art direction of the project: website, flyers, fair booth, graphical identity etc.
