in order to increase and support ww1-tourism, one should be very cautiously deal with the heritage and its accessibility. the sometimes crowded sites should be well managed and the remembrance of the first world war should be developed and communicated as a coherent whole. therefore an appropriate but modest way-finding and information system is needed. the design consists of windows forming different products in a modular combination: a beacon, a bike staple or a frame in which information boards are assembled. because the different parts are placed in a grid, the design remains sober and simple. the frameworks are as it were ‘windows of history’ and by their subtle presence unobtrusive but rather subdued. the beacon has an integrated logo and serves as a landmark.
